Competition/ Company
A word about Company:
Our Company dancers are the students who feel that dance is their passion and are willing and excited to do as much of it as they can and perform in as many different venues as possible. Our Company dancers perform with other professional Companies in the Denver area when ever possible (David Taylor Dance Theater, Dance Connect, etc.) as well as participate in outreach programs, perform in our Nutcracker, our Spring Showcase and our June Storyline Production Recital. Company dancers must audition to participate and must take as many different dance genres as possible. Our focus for our Company dancers is Artistry, Diversity, Leadership. Our Company dancers have gone on to receive prestigious dance scholarships to auditioned programs such as Line Ballet, Alvin Ailey, Marymount Manhattan, University of Utah, etc. We have had great success in training our dancers for college scholarships in programs we believe give them a continued foundation in dance that is a viable springboard into the professional dance world.
A word about Competitions:
As part of the experiences we want our Company dancers to have we offer Competitions, but our studio is very comprehensive and we believe in a balance of many different kinds of performing venues, so Competitions are not our primary driving force. We love to participate in usually 3 kinds of competitions per year and we try to choose a good variety for these 3 experiences that includes different kinds of emphasis on how dancers and their dances are being judged. We believe that something is lost in the art form if the primary driving force for a dancer is based around winning and competing, however competition is an exciting venue and we recognize that our students grow from the feedback of the judges and from seeing other amazing dancers! Having said that, we do very well at Competitions and our dancers have won many awards such as NYCDA Outstanding Dancer, Miss Teen DEA , Ballet Seminar Scholarships DEA (many years including 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011), Cathy Roe Overall Outstanding Choreography Award, as well as numerous other Scholarships, Specialty, Choreography and Platinum awards in many other Competitions. We enjoy Competitions but we see them as just one aspect in the balanced training of a dancer.
